BOTOX® Before and After Photo

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Emotions are most apparent on a person's face, and the face is the part of the body most frequently exposed to environmental elements. As a result, fine lines and wrinkles can begin to appear over time, even on the face of a younger person. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments at our Greenville, Mississippi clinic can help to reduce and even erase the appearance of worry lines, laugh lines, frown lines, crow's feet, and other dynamic wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only treatment of its kind to receive approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Terracina uses a fine needle to inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the facial muscles responsible for the formation of lines and wrinkles on the outer skin. In a process known as denervation, BOTOX® Cosmetic's highly refined botulism toxin type A temporarily paralyzes the muscles. Because the muscles cannot move from their relaxed state, lines and wrinkles on the outer skin diminish or disappear. The skin becomes smoother and more attractive as lines and wrinkles fade.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment at our Greenville, Mississippi clinic is quick and easy. Dr. Terracina can complete the procedure in as little as 10 minutes, so you can schedule a lunchtime appointment and be back at work without missing a beat! The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic last three to four months. When the lines begin to reappear, a quick repeat treatment is all that is necessary to achieve the desired results.

Eye Lift Before and After Photo

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes have been called the mirrors to the soul; however, if your eyes have become droopy or baggy, it's possible that they don't accurately reflect your true inner feelings. While you may feel young and vigorous, your eyes may be telling others that you are tired and cranky. With our advanced laser eyelid surgery procedures at our Greenville, Mississippi clinic, however, you can redefine the contours of your eyes and relieve bagginess for a more youthful, revitalized appearance.

Technically known as laser-assisted blepharoplasty, and more casually as an eyelid lift, laser eyelid surgery allows our Jackson, Mississippi patients to combat drooping eyelids and eliminate sagging under-eye bags. A laser is used to remove the excess skin of the upper eyelid that causes it to droop. Because the laser beam seals blood vessels as it touches them, there is less bleeding, swelling, and bruising than with traditional blepharoplasty techniques, which helps to reduce healing time. For the lower eyelids, the laser is used inside the lower eyelid transconjunctivally (across the conjunctiva) to make a small, bloodless incision. The fat pads causing the "bags" are removed, and because no skin incision is made, no stitches are required. Recovery time is relatively brief, and the results are generally excellent.

If the appearance of your eyes does not reflect your true inner feelings, you may wish to consider laser eyelid surgery. At our Greenville clinic, convenient to Jackson, Mississippi, we use the safest, most advanced techniques and technologies to perform laser-assisted blepharoplasty. Contact us today to schedule an eyelid surgery consultation.

Neck Lift Before and After Photo

Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)

A neck lift helps our Jackson, Mississippi patients when age, weight loss, or genetics leaves skin on the neck loose and hanging, sometimes resulting in a "turkey wattle" appearance. Though a neck lift is most commonly performed to counteract the effects of aging, the procedure can also help individuals who have excess skin following massive weight loss. Often, when loose, droopy skin around the neck is genetic, no amount of dieting and exercise will improve its look. Whatever the cause, a neck lift will tighten the skin around the neck, giving the area a sleeker, more attractive appearance.

Depending on the patient’s needs, the neck lift procedure may involve only liposuction or may require more extensive surgery In most patients, the skin will tighten once excess neck fat is removed by gentle suction. However, liposuction will not lift sagging jowls, nor will it flatten folds of a "turkey wattle". To correct these irregularities, Dr. Terracina makes a small incision in the neck under the chin and then tightens the underlying muscle with sutures so that the muscle returns to its normal sheet-like shape. Smoothing the contour of the neck results in a firmer, more youthful appearance.

To learn more about the benefits of having a neck lift, residents of Jackson, Mississippi and throughout the Delta region can contact The Skin Institute to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Joseph Terracina.

S-Lift

What is a “S-Lift”?

The S-Lift (short for “small lift”) is a minimally invasive face lift that gives an overall lift to the lower/mid face and neck area.  The “S” refers to the shape of the incision made in front of the ear.  When compared to the traditional face lift, the S-Lift offers a much quicker operation with fewer complications and a faster recovery time.

How is the S-Lift performed?

An S-shaped excision is made in front of the ear.  Any excess fat deposits from the cheeks, chin and neck area are removed and the skin is then lifted to tighten and reposition the underlying muscles and tissues.  The opening is then closed with fine sutures.

Who is a good candidate for the S-Lift?

A good candidate for the S-Lift generally is man/woman between the ages of 30 & 50 who are in good overall health.  They typically have mild to moderate lower to mid facial and neck laxity and they desire to shorten the aging process by staying a few steps ahead of it.

Benefit to the S-Lift

  • Faster recovery time than with a traditional face lift; typically a week to 10 days
  • Fewer complications because of minimal facial dissection and limited skin excision
  • Unnoticeable scar; incision made in front of the ear only
  • Minimal bruising and swelling, if any at all
  • No hair loss
  • Gives a more natural, refreshed look without looking like you’ve had surgery

Parisian Peel® Microdermabrasion

Parisian Peel® microdermabrasion provides our patients with one of the quickest, most effective methods of facial rejuvenation. Developed in France and used throughout the world, Parisian Peel® microdermabrasion is highly effective in treating fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, blemishes, and other conditions to give skin a younger appearance and smoother texture. Patients who undergo acne treatment often choose Parisian Peel® to reduce or erase acne scars. Because the Parisian Peel® is effective with all skin types and uses no chemicals, it is an excellent solution for patients whose skin cannot tolerate laser skin treatment or chemical peels.

Dr. Terracina performs Parisian Peel® microdermabrasion using a small handheld instrument that sprays and vacuums tiny crystals, exfoliating the skin's surface of dead, rough cells. This reveals smoother, softer underlying skin and stimulates collagen production. There is little discomfort during and after the Parisian Peel®, so no anesthetics are necessary. Because a Parisian Peel® takes only 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and there is no downtime, a treatment can be scheduled as a convenient lunchtime appointment. To achieve the best results, a series of five to ten treatments may be necessary. At The Skin Institute's About Face Cosmetic Center, we carry a full selection of exceptional skin care products that will help you maintain the beauty and health of your skin after the Parisian Peel®.

Contact us today to learn more about the benefits of Parisian Peel® microdermabrasion and all of our other facial rejuvenation procedures, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, laser eyelid surgery, and neck lift. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are substances that are injected under the skin to smooth skin and augment lips and other facial features. They are derived from natural sources and have undergone strict clinical testing for safety and efficacy both in the United States and throughout the world. Often used to complement an eyelid surgery, neck lift, or other procedure, dermal fillers provide excellent results that typically last three to six months. Restylane Before and After Photo

Restylane®

Restylane® is a revolutionary, nonallergenic dermal filler from Sweden that offers exceptional, long-lasting results. With Restylane®, Dr. Terracina can smooth facial lines and wrinkles, add body and contour to lips, and sculpt the cheeks and mouth. This highly effective cosmetic filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a biodegradable substance that occurs naturally in all living beings. Its natural function in the human body is to provide volume and pliability to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is capable of binding with water up to 1,000 times its weight in water, so even as a Restylane® treatment begins to naturally degrade, it continues to attract water. This is why Restylane® lasts up to 60 percent longer than collagen fillers. Clinical trials have shown that lip augmentation treatments with Restylane® last up to six months, and facial contouring treatments last up to 12 months. Because it is so effective, Dr. Terracina often uses Restylane® to enhance the results of a neck lift or eyelid surgery. Our Jackson and Greenville, Mississippi patients appreciate the fact that, because Restylane® is derived from a natural substance, no skin test is necessary prior to treatment.

Sculptra Aesthetic

You’ve always heard the phrase “aging gracefully”. Well we at The Skin Institute are offering you just that! We are proud to announce the newest product available at The Skin Institute -- Sculptra®Aesthetic – a new type of facial injectable that is used for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) and other facial wrinkles. It is important to know that Sculptra®Aesthetic is not a quick-fix, overnight miracle – the results from the treatment are gradual, giving you a more subtle look without giving away your secret. Sculptra®Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen by giving you subtle results over time, which in-turn gives you a more natural-looking appearance. And what’s even better – these results can last up to 2 years! Welcome to the new age of anti-age!

What is the primary cause of facial aging?
There are a number of factors that contribute to the signs of aging, including chronological factors and environmental factors. Chronological factors happen over a period of time and are usually genetic and part of the natural aging process. Environmental factors occur from the things in the world around you, such as sun exposure, smoking, gravity, facial expressions, or sleep positions. Facial aging usually beings in your 20s when the volume in your skin starts to diminish. Around age 30, the natural collagen in our skin begins to break down. As we get older, the lines and wrinkles in our face become more pronounced and worsen over time. Because of the aging effect and damages from the environment, collagen is lost and our body’s natural ability to produce collagen weakens.

What is Sculptra®Aesthetic?
Sculptra®Aesthetic is the first facial injectable of its kind that helps to gradually replace lost collagen and rebuild volume over a period of time. In 2009, Sculptra®Aesthetic gained FDA-approval for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles. It is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is biocompatible, meaning it will not harm your body. Poly-L-lactic acid has been used for years in dissolvable stitches and studies have shown that it helps to restore lost collagen. A full treatment of Sculptra®Aesthetic consists of multiple injection sessions over a period of a few months and results have been proven to last up to 2 years!

How does Sculptra®Aesthetic work?
Sculptra®Aesthetic targets the primary causes of the signs of facial aging. It can give you visible results that appear subtly and can last for up to 2 years! The main component of Sculptra®Aesthetic, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), works within the deep dermis to replace lost collagen. As the collagen is replaced, it provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness by correcting your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Sculptra®Aesthetic works slowly through a series of treatments over a period of time to rebuild volume and fullness. With proper injection techniques, Sculptra®Aesthetic can last up to 2 years!

Are the results of Sculptra®Aesthetic immediate?
No. Sculptra®Aesthetic works gradually to combat the underlying causes of aging. The results emerge slowly, but last much longer than traditional fillers. Although some visible improvements can be seen within the first few weeks following the initial treatment, Sculptra®Aesthetic is intended to provide subtle effects over a period of time. Generally, Sculptra®Aesthetic involves a series of 3 or 4 sessions at 4 to 6 week intervals. Because the effects are gradual, the results appear subtly and more natural looking, yet noticeable!

What are the possible side effects?
Side effects of Sculptra®Aesthetic may include injection site pain, redness, bruising, bleeding, itching, or swelling. Other side effects may include small bumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, with or without inflammation, have also been reported. Other side effects may include the delayed development of non-visible, small bumps under the skin sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area.

Who should not use Sculptra®Aesthetic?
You should not use Sculptra Aesthetic if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. You should not be treated when you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area or if you have a history or susceptibility to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Sculptra Aesthetic and Sculptra are products that are intended for use in different populations and conditions of use.
