Unwanted hair growing in inconvenient places can be embarrassing and annoying. Shaving can irritate delicate skin and leave angry red bumps and itchy stubble. Now with advanced laser hair removal, our Jackson, Mississippi area patients can rid themselves of unwanted hair quickly and effectively. Dr. Terracina uses the Laserscope® Gemini® Laser for permanent hair removal that leaves skin smooth and free of redness and annoying stubble.
In performing laser hair removal, Dr. Terracina uses the laser's tightly focused beam of light to penetrate hair follicles and destroy developing hair. The procedure is not painful - many patients describe a laser hair removal treatment as feeling like a rubber band being snapped against the skin. To minimize discomfort, a cool gel is applied to the skin targeted for treatment. Treatment can take anywhere from several minutes for a small patch of hair to an hour or longer for larger areas.
Laser hair removal generally takes a minimum of 5 treatments to obtain maximum results. Minimal hair regrowth may occur after a procedure, so it may be necessary to schedule touch-up laser hair removal treatments. Delta-area residents who come to us for laser hair removal rave about the effectiveness of the treatments. They express gratitude and relief because they are finally free from painful shaving and plucking. Individuals who suffer from pseudo-folliculitis, or painful shaving bumps from ingrown hairs, find permanent relief with our laser treatments. For comprehensive aesthetic enhancement, many patients complement a neck lift or liposuction procedure with laser hair removal. Jackson, Mississippi and other Delta-area residents are invited to contact our practice in Greenville to schedule an appointment to learn more about laser hair removal and all of our exciting procedures.

In addition to laser hair removal, Dr. Terracina performs laser tattoo removal at his Greenville, Mississippi laser surgery center with amazing results. Jackson, Mississippi and other Delta-area residents who have a tattoo they regret are not alone. Approximately half of the estimated 20 million Americans who have tattoos report that they would like to erase a tattoo from their skin, but they fear a disfiguring scar will result.
Laser tattoo removal of a small, one-color tattoo usually takes one or two 30-minute treatments. Larger tattoos and multicolored tattoos often require multiple treatments, the number depending on the size of the tattoo and the type(s) of ink used. Laser tattoo removal sessions at our Greenville, Mississippi laser surgery center are typically spaced from four to eight weight weeks apart to allow dissipation of the ink and healing between treatments. Discomfort is minimal, and most patients do not require anesthesia during the laser tattoo removal procedure. Dr. Terracina will gladly provide topical or local anesthesia, however, if it is requested.
If you have a tattoo that has lost its appeal, you can fix the problem with our highly effective laser tattoo removal treatments. Contact The Skin Institute's laser surgery center today for more information.

The cutting-edge Fraxel® laser is a high-tech marvel that provides treatment for a variety of conditions with breakthrough technology. Finally a laser has been created that offers the exceptional results of an ablative laser but with the gentleness of a non-ablative laser. Ablative lasers have traditionally provided the most dramatic results for patients seeking aesthetic improvement, but the treatment has significant side effects and requires an extended healing period. Non-ablative lasers have few side effects and little or no healing time, but the results are modest. The Fraxel® laser provides the outstanding results of an ablative laser with only mild side effects and minimal downtime.
Using the Fraxel® laser system, Dr. Terracina can effectively address aging and damaged skin by creating microscopic, precisely targeted microthermal treatment zones deep beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells and stimulates the body to naturally produce new collagen and skin cells. FDA-approved Fraxel® laser treatments provide remarkable improvement for wrinkles around the eyes, acne scars, age spots and brown spots, and melasma (the "mask of pregnancy"). With the advanced Fraxel® technology, Dr. Terracina can also improve skin texture tone and pore size, and provide rejuvenating treatment of the neck, chest, and hands.
Clinical studies have indicated that three to five Fraxel® treatment sessions administered at intervals of four to seven days provide excellent results. However, Dr. Terracina can custom design a treatment regime that best fits your needs and schedule. Contact The Skin Institute today to learn more about the amazing Fraxel® laser system or to schedule an appointment to begin Fraxel® laser treatments.

The BClear® Targeted PhotoClearing System targeted, high-dose UVB (ultraviolet-band) light to effectively treat psoriasis and vitiglio. Patients who suffer mild to severe patches of psoriasis, and those individuals who have lesions in the body's skin folds, benefit from the BClear® System because its fiber-optic delivery system targets healing UVB light specifically on areas requiring treatment. Patients typically require fewer treatments with the BClear® Targeted PhotoClearing System than with conventional UVB.
The BClear® System is especially effective for the treatment of vitiglio because the UVB light can be targeted specifically on areas of skin that need repigmentation or depigmentation without putting healthy skin at risk. BClear® Targeted PhotoClearing System treatments are reimbursable under an existing UVB phototherapy CPT code, so your personal expenses will be minimized. For more information, or to schedule an appointment for treatment of psoriasis or vitiglio with the BClear® Targeted PhotoClearing System, contact The Skin Institute's laser surgery center today.

At The Skin Institute, we use the high-powered Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser System to remove pigmented lesions such as sunspots or freckles, and to significantly fade or completely erase tattoos. The Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser's highly focused beam of laser light harmlessly penetrates the outer skin layer to target excess pigmentation and a full range of colored tattoo inks within the deeper skin layers. The absorbed laser light converts to heat once it reaches the targeted skin cells, and the heat causes the pigment or ink to fracture into microscopic particles. After one or two weeks, the skin naturally sheds the pigmented lesions, or the lymphatic system carries away the remnants of tattoo inks.
Treatment time with the Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser is typically short. Most treatments can be completed within 10 to 30 minutes – the length of treatment time depends on the size and location of the lesion or tattoo. The number of treatments necessary to provide optimal results depends on several factors related to the size of the treatment area, and the extent of pigmentation or the amount and color of the tattoo ink. Dr. Terracina may be able to fade small, faint tattoos and pigmented lesions with just one Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser treatment. However, patients often require five or more treatments to achieve desired results. Dr. Terracina usually schedules treatments every six to eight weeks to give a patient's body sufficient time to eliminate the loosened pigment or ink particles.
There is little discomfort associated with the laser treatment. Most patients say that the sensation is like having a rubber band snapped against the skin. For patients who prefer to avoid any sensation from the laser, Dr. Terracina can administer a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. If you have a tattoo you regret or pigmented lesions that you'd like to erase, treatment with the state-of-the-art Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser provides an excellent solution for achieving your goals. Contact the Skin Institute today to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Terracina so that he can tell you more about the benefits of treatment with the Palomar Q-Yag 5™ Laser System.

LUTRONIC’S eCO2™ LASER SYSTEM: Bridging the gap between traditional CO2 systems and fractional resurfacing systems, for the next generation.
Dr. Joseph R. Terracina, MD of The Skin Institute in Greenville, MS is proud to offer Lutronic’s eCO2™ Laser to prospective patients. The first one of it’s kind in the state of Mississippi and the region, the eCO2™ Laser is quickly making a reputable name for itself among other leading lasers. Because of his immaculate past experience with CO2 laser facial resurfacing, Lutronic chose Dr. Terracina to become a luminary for the company and have one of the first study sites for the eCO2™ laser.
Recently, technology has made a large step in bridging the gap between traditional CO2 systems and fractional laser systems, creating fractional CO2 systems. One of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of aesthetic and medical laser systems, Lutonic, Inc has created the eCO2™ Laser: The first multi-functional fractional CO2 laser system. This new innovative technology is very comparable to traditional CO2 lasers in that it provides effective treatment of deep lines and facial scars while also repairing the elasticity of the skin. Additionally, the eCO2™ laser is similar to fractional laser systems, for instance, the popular Fraxel® Laser, in that it has a much faster healing time and fewer side effects. It is designed to safely treat acne scars, facial wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun-damaged skin, un-even pigmentation or skin tone, and much more. With proper treatment and after care, the eCO2™ Laser can effectively renovate your skin to that of a baby’s, which is newer and healthier.
For years, the most popular method of treating aging skin has been laser resurfacing, either with ablative techniques or light-based therapies. Traditionally, the most effective way to treat facial wrinkles and/or scars was with invasive skin peeling surgery using a CO2 laser system. This system provides outstanding cosmetic results, however, it is also associated with long recovery periods and significant side effects. For years, technology has tried to match the results achieved with traditional CO2 systems, while also trying to reduce the healing time and side effects. The new generation of laser systems, often referred to as fractional laser systems, have been very popular in treating minimal lines and wrinkles while at the same time providing less healing time for patients. With the creation of fractional CO2 laser systems, more importantly Lutronic’s eCO2™ Laser, it seems we are one step closer to having the best of both systems – fantastic results without the extensive healing time.
Lutronic’s eCO2™ Laser can be customized to each individuals needs. The eCO2™ Laser is quick and less painful than many other laser treatments on the market today and procedures are performed either under topical anesthesia or IV sedation. Patients experience less downtime than with traditional CO2 lasers, without having to sacrifice superior results.
For more information on this exciting, new technology, please contact The Skin Institute at (800) 552-7546 or www.theskininstitute.com or visit www.lutronic.com.
